Gwearbennen's Blog

Gwearbennen is a woman of many talents but predominately she is an artist.

An accomplished equestrian before disability put a stop to that, she takes her knowledge of the horse into her art, and creates portraits that are widely commissioned.

However, it is her great love of nature that inspires her and this can be seen in all her artwork.

She has to overcome problems that her physical condition causes, such as intense tremors, which make painting a somewhat laborious process and frustrating. To this end she asks you to bear this in mind when viewing her art.

From the horses mouth...

You could say I was born with a pencil in my hand. If I wasn't drawing, I'd be writing stories and poetry, and even designing fantasy castles! I would say that having a hearing impairment (which began at 5 years until I lost all hearing at 24 years), only enhanced my imagination - a vivid one that has not diminished with age.

My life was that of an outdoor girl - I spent my first years living on a farm, worked on a farm and later had a small stud breeding and showing Welsh Section A ponies and Welsh Cobs. I also had a variety of animals, pigs, goats, ducks et al.

But disaster struck when I hit my middle 40's and I became physically disabled with a spinal condition (and now with hip arthritis). This meant that I had to give up working with horses, indeed all manual work had to stop. I cannot begin to explain my despair at this, but pulling myself together I turned to my artistic side and began doing art 'properly', as well as establishing myself as a poet and author.

On these pages you can see a small sample of my work, both art and writing.
